Debra Jackson has been dealing with high blood pressure for over 25 years and recently found out she had other illnesses; some caused by her high blood pressure. Here, she shares her experiences over the past six months and also tells us how important it is for people, like herself, to manage their high blood pressure before it gets worse or causes dangerous diseases like kidney failure.

Debra Jackson was born and raised in Harlem and has worked at Columbia University's Teachers College Press for the past ten years. Since being diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) over 25 years ago, Debra recently made lifestyle changes to improve her health after learning she had stage 4 kidney disease.

Debra Jackson is native resident of Harlem, an active member of her church and a part of the Harlem Health Promotion Center's Community Advisory Board (CAB). Debra has been living with high blood pressure for over 25 years, but it wasn't until last year that she started to make lifestyle changes to help her lower her blood pressure.
