  • Thomas Nickolas, MD

    Dr. Thomas Nickolas, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Associate Director of the Nephrology Fellowship Program at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at New York Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, he is a Herbert Irving Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine. He received his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh and his master's degree in biostatistics and patient oriented research from the Joseph Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

    Dr. Nickolas has received many honors including the Irving Scholars Award, the National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Program and the Patient Oriented Research Scholarship from Columbia University.

    Dr. Nickolas has an extensive research background and is interested in Chronic Kidney Diseases, in particular bone health in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease. His ongoing projects include new methods to identify Chronic Kidney Disease patients at high risk for fracture and the development of treatment modalities that will enhance their patients' bone health.

    He is a member of the International Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.
