Did You Know…Texting can cause serious damage to your neck and back?
A new study published in the Surgical Technology Journal shows that looking down at your phone puts as much pressure on your neck as if it had a 60-pound force on it! The study found that every day, we spend a total of about an hour total checking our phones to send text messages, surf the Internet, and write emails. All that time looking down at your phone screen adds up, and can affect your neck and your back.
Some examples of damage are:
• Early weakening of the neck and back muscles
• The possible need for surgery later in life
We’re all guilty of constantly looking at our phones. The study suggests that it could be a good idea to hold your phone up in front of your face when checking it, so that your neck is not strained.
