  • Healthy Tip of the Week (HTW): December 15-22, 2024

    GHHEditor December 15th, 2024

There are three key things you can do to prepare yourself for the winter months ahead:

    1. Stay warm. This is one of the most important things you can do during the winter months! If you get too cold, it may lead to frostbite causing long-term damages affecting your skin, eyes, ears and heart health!

    2. Wear safe shoes or boots with good traction. While they may not be the most attractive fashion statement, good footwear will keep you warm as well as help you avoid falls.

    3. Be prepared. A major winter storm can last for several days leading to high winds, freezing rain, heavy snowfall and cold temperatures. This can affect the community for days or even weeks so it’s always good to have proper emergency supplies materials stored in case there is a power outage. Suggested items include:

    • Flashlight and extra batteries
    • Extra water and foods such as dried fruit, nuts and granola bars
    • Extra pet food
    • Battery-powered radio
    • First-aid supplies
    • Fire extinguisher
    • Smoke alarm, test once a month to ensure it works properly

Just following these three simple steps will make it easier for you to enjoy this winter season!
