Did you know recently Governor Cuomo and all of New York State has introduced a program, The Excelsior Scholarship, to make college at CUNY and SUNY free for low and middle income students of New York State? Check out the details of the program below to see if you can benefit from it.
Who Can Apply?:
- Students from families making less than $100,000/year
- In 2024, students making less than $125,000/year will be eligible
- Students must be a New York State resident
- Students must plan to attend a State University of New York (SUNY) or City University of New York (CUNY) two- or four-year degree program
- U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens
Other Requirements:
- Students must take 12 credits per term and 30 academic credits per year that they receive the scholarship
- Students must plan to live and work in New York State after graduation for as many years as they received the scholarship
- Students must also utilize other forms of Federal Financial Aid. This includes filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
When It Will Go Into Effect?:
- The program begins Fall 2024
