It’s National Influenza Vaccination Week! “Influenza” is the scientific name for the flu. This week, take some time to get your flu shot! Here’s some reasons why:
1. The flu is more than just feeling under the weather. It’s a serious illness that can make you feel awful for as long as a week. If you’ve ever had the real-deal flu, you know it’s something you never want to have again.
2. The government recommends that everyone 6 months old and up should get a flu shot, with some exceptions.
3. Make sure to get vaccinated sooner rather than later! It takes about two weeks for the immune system's protections to kick in.
4. The flu vaccine can cause mild side effects, but it can’t give you the flu. And those mild side effects aren’t nearly as bad as a week-long illness!
5. Even if you got a flu shot last year, you need another this year. The body’s immunity is best when the shot is received every year. Stay healthy so you can enjoy the holiday season! Take the time to call your doctor and ask about a flu shot this week.
