Martinez, Robert, L.Ac., MSTOM
Q: What is your job? Where do you work?
A: I am an acupuncturist, and also a taijiquan instructor. Currently, most of my practice is at St. Ann's Corner of Harm Reduction in the Bronx, where I provide acupuncture to people who struggle with drug addiction, or who simply can't afford normal health care. I also see patients privately at Pinehurst Healing Arts in Washington Heights.
Q: What do you do to stay healthy?
A: To stay healthy, I sit Zen, practice taijiquan, and ride my bicycle whenever I can. I also try to eat right, and limit my intake of junk food.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Harlem?
A: Stroll around!
Q: What are your hobbies?
As a hobby, I play go, an ancient Asian board game (in China it's called wei qi, and in Korea it's called baduk). I'm not that good at it, but I enjoy playing it.
Q: What got you interested in health in Northern Manhattan?
A: Riding my bicycle to City College, some 20 years ago now! The pounds came off, and I was hooked on cycling ever since.
