In high school, we knew people who made do with old shared textbooks and struggled to pay attention. We knew people who tried a drug because it would make them feel light and crashed again and again. We knew adults who told us to keep our noses in our hardcovers and repeat back what we heard. And we saw what that cost.
Now we teach physical education in New York City public schools. More children want to learn from us than we can reach in the time we get. Children who look on paper like behavior problems come to our classes and exhibit teamwork, ingenuity, patience and drive. They learn and relearn. We prove every day that any of them can and should get the chance to lead the way to prosperity.
The NYC Strategic Alliance for Health reconvenes its campaign to get more phys ed into our public schools Monday, February 13 at 43 pm at 161-169 East 110th Street in Harlem.
We want to teach more children- and give more children the chance to teach.
