My doctor just gave me a new prescription --do I have to bring it to the pharmacy right away?

  • No, but you should have it filled as soon as you can
  • Medicaid will only pay for the prescription if it is filled within 60 days of the original date
  • After 60 days, Medicaid considers the prescription to be expired and you will need a new one

Did you know... "generic” drugs have the SAME active ingredients as “brand name” drugs?

When a drug company discovers a new drug, they often patent this new drug so that no other company can produce the same drug. This is called a brand name drug. Once this patent expires, other drug companies can make the generic drug, which has the same active ingredients as the brand name drug.

I recently read an article about what to do with medicines that have expired. The recommendation is to mix the medications with coffee grounds and toss them in the garbage. Many people flush pills down the toilet, but this can be harmful to waterways and their ecosystems.
