Did you know? Community involvement is good for your health.
When you are actively involved in community groups and activities or otherwise participate in your neighborhood, you'll reduce stress and feel better about your environment.
Some researchers think that community involvement improves health directly because people who feel connected to their community are more likely to share health information with each other, or provide mutual support through difficult situations. In addition, being involved in your community affects health because an active community is motivated to fight for what's best, including advocating for better education, neighborhood cleanliness and services.
What does it mean for Harlem?
Harlem is already a place where neighbors support each other and give advice so there is no shortage of people reaching out. By keeping in touch with your friends, family members, neighbors and getting involved in community activities, you can help make a better and stronger Harlem. If you hear about something important that may affect your loved ones or strangers, speak up! Sharing knowledge is a great way to build community.
