Just Food, a non-profit working to develop a just and sustainable food system in the New York City region, proposes that the New York City Department of Health amend a Health Code section that bans the practice of beekeeping in New York City. They argue that beekeeping will increase productivity in community gardens, botanical gardens, and public parks; increase health and nutrition; and provide education and job skills opportunities.

 

In order to raise awareness about this issue, they have launched Pollinator Week. From Monday, June 22 to Sunday, June 28, there will be several events celebrating beekeeping, such as:
