August is Yoga Awareness month and whether you are fit or not, yoga is for you! Research shows that yoga can not only make you physically fit, but it can lower blood pressure, reduce frequent neck or back pain, lower anxiety or depression, and it can help you cope better with cancer, or other diseases. The benefits of yoga include becoming more aware of your body and your inner self; learning how to relax; and feeling enjoyment. You can find inexpensive and even free classes at the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation that offer free yoga through Shape Up NYC. There are many recreation centers in the Northern Manhattan area where you may find yoga offered for free.
