On July 21, Perdue Farms and also the USDA announced the Wal-Mart chicken nugget recall. Some customers found chunks of blue plastic in their nuggets. The chicken nuggets included in the recall are identified by:

Bags with one pound and 13 ounces of nuggets

Great Value brand labeling

P-33944 as the Establishment Number

Identified with case code 89008 A0160

When you have a bag of the recalled Wal-Mart chicken nuggets, return it to the store for a refund. The cost of the recall will probably be around a half of a million dollars.

Recall caused by blue plastic in the nugget

The recall on Wal-Mart chicken nuggets is considered a class II recall. There are no injuries or sicknesses reported as a result of this product. Perdue Farms has said that it expects that a "small plastic ring" was mixed in with the raw meat.

Creating your own chicken nuggets

If you really love chicken nuggets but want to stay away from the Wal-Mart chicken nugget recall, you are able to. Making your own chicken nuggets is quick, cheap, and healthy. Chicken nuggets made at home cost less than $ 1 per serving. First, chop boneless skinless chicken into nugget-sized chunks. Mix together bread crumbs and seasonings, or even use a product like Shake 'n Bake. Coat the chicken with crumbs after you dunk it in milk or butter. Bake at 350 for 10 to 20 minutes. In case you are relatively brave, you can even deep-fat-fry them.

An even healthier way to make chicken nuggets at home is to use low-fat salad dressings or low-fat milk to dunk your boneless chicken breasts before breading.

Also, don't forget to use other seasonings BESIDES salt to give it flavor since breadcrumbs and Shake n Bake both have salt in them already! (Try Mrs. Dash, which is a salt-less seasoning - or just a combination of some of your other favorite spices).

Remember: Baking is MUCH healthier than deep-frying!
