NYC Department of Health says to stop pouring on the pounds! New ad campaign

Key words: Food, Weight, Sugar, Soda, Nyc Department Of Health.

The NYC Department of Health has a new ad campaign out to try to get NYers to think twice about drinking sugary beverages (link to press release: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/pr2009/pr057-09.shtml).

I like the ads the health department has put out recently because while they can be shocking and a little gross, if they get people's attention, why not?

Years ago I stopped drinking tons of soda. I still drink soda, but I usually just drink water. When I had stomach problems I went to a nutritionist and she (besides telling me that I eat WAY too much sugar) really brought my attention to the grams of sugar in drinks. Her advice to me was to look at the labels and see how many grams of sugar anything had (including beverages). She said anything over 15g is too much.

Have you looked at the nutrition label for your orange juice lately? I've seen 24g PER SERVING on most bottles.

There are quite a few articles on this site about little things you can do to lose weight and I've read some nice stories about people who have made little changes....I added them to the "Related Content" section so check them out...

Every little step counts article -- If you scroll to the bottom it says that if you replace 1 can of regular soda every day with a glass of water instead, you can lose up to 15 pounds in one year! I think the dept. of health is onto something with their new ad campaign to stop pouring on the pounds!

Take a look at the NYC press release. Below are some pictures from it that I thought were fun.

I don't know what to say about this ad campaign. Isn't it trying to boycott the branded products?
