Every hour, more than 100 Americans suffer heart attacks or strokes.
Now the Million Hearts Campaign—a national initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service and key partners—aims to cut this number by 1 million deaths over five years. The Center's "Heart-2-Heart" conference, sponsored by the New York Life Endowment for Emerging African-American Issues and presented in collaboration with the Harlem Health Promotion Center, will focus on how Harlem can service as a model for bringing down local rates of heart attacks, strokes, and heart disease.
The event will feature presentations and panel discussions from local health professionals, policy-makers and community leaders who are:
- Improving access to effective care
- Improving quality of care for ABCS (Asprin for people at risk, Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management and Smoking cessation)
- Focusing clinical attention on the prevention of heart attacks and stroke
- Activating the public to lead a heart healthy lifestyle
