Dietary Sodium Restriction

Blog posted by Afrokitty 24 weeks ago
Key words: Food, Healthier Eating In Urban Communities.

Does anyone have any tips on reducing sodium intake?  I've started by reading food labels on processed foods, bottled water and condiments, and by paying attention to the serving size on the food labels.

that is a good start. one way to reduce sodium is to not use salt with your foods. high sodium in the diet can lead to high blood pressure so its good to cut down on it!

Also, try to avoid canned and packaged foods. There is lots of extra sodium in many of those products.

Another tip is to eat at home. At home you can more easily regulate how much sodium is in the products you're buying and how much salt you're adding to each meal. When you eat out, you have no idea how much salt and sodium has been added to your food, but, it's likely to be significantly more than if you made it yourself!
