Fort Greene Farmer's Market in Brooklyn

Key words: Food.

Checked it out this weekend. Lots of local produce at the stalls this weekend- especially delicious NY apples! Also, ramps. The farmer said these have a short season. Does anyone have a good recipe for ramps?

Wow I had to look up what "ramps" were. I never heard wild leeks being referred to that way. They're like an onion, right? Since they only have a short season it might not be a bad idea to stock up and then chop and freeze some to use in cooked dishes.

You got me intrigued, and I found a few good recipes for you, but I've never actually tried them. If you do, let me know how they come out!

Also, have you been to any of the farmers markets up in Harlem? I know there's one at the state office building on ACP!

Thanks for the recipe and the snip and store ideas, Laura. I wonder if since ramps are related to leeks maybe I could substitute later in the season?

Nope, haven't been to any of the farmers markets in Harlem yet- keep me posted!

Oh boy, just 1h43min until my lunch break stroll... Check you later everyone.

Yeah you definitely could - or you can try to chop them and freeze them for use later in the season. I do that with my regular onions if they're about to go bad and I'm not sure if I can use them in time. I can then use them in recipes that call for sauteeing, or baking - they defrost quickly and you still get that fresh flavor!

Have fun on your lunch break stroll! It's a beautiful day for that!
