Pilates....hmmmm...what is that...well....wanna hear about it..here I go. It is in its most classical form:  Concentration, Precision, Flow, Breath and Centering. Originaly called "Contrology," and founded by a German boxer, physical education teacher, diver, skier and gymnast, Pilates became a household name once he introduced it to New York. Yes...it is about core strength...but think about it....our "core" is so much more....it is our "think tank," and it houses some of the most important parts of our human self. Without a strong core....we are mush. So with all that,,,,Pilates is "an exercise method of body conditioning" unlike yoga. Pilates is a full body exercise method which strengthens, aligns, tones and corrects the body by connecting the mind to the body.Pilates also utilizes machines: reformer, cadillac, wunda chair, pedi-pole, spine corrector and so many others.  In a typical studio you will find these machines plsu your regular mat classes.

 

Interested in Pilates? Well, come to my Beginner-Intermediate class at Harlem Center for Healthy Living every Tuesdays at 7pm and Intermediate-Advanced at 8pm. On Friday I teach Pilates Plus at 7:35pm - adding the ball, theraband, weights and magic circle to give your body that "extra." Hey and I love teaching guys....dare me.

haha this is awesome! The first time I did pilates it kicked my butt big time but left me aching for more (quite literally)! I never realized that pilates (or yoga for that matter) could be such workouts, but they felt GREAT to do!
