Pharmacy On the Street

Blog entry posted by GPharm12 32 weeks ago

Hi everyone! I’m back again with more pharmacy news. This week, I took to the streets of Harlem to ask a few of the residents about their medication experiences. I bumped into a man by the name of C.J., and after introducing myself as a Touro College of Pharmacy student, he let me ask him questions about his health. He was in his 50s, and told me that he has high blood glucose and high blood pressure, and has been taking medications for some time now. “I have been taking Metformin for my glucose, and the water pill for my blood pressure”, she said.  C.J. admitted that when he was first told he had high blood sugar and high blood pressure, he did not take his medication the way his doctor told him to. “I just took them whenever I felt like it”, he said. “Sometimes I would forget to take them, since I was so busy all the time”.  C.J. also went on to say that taking his medications whenever he felt like it did not help to lower his blood sugar or his blood pressure levels. “A family member of mine was worried about me, and told me to go see my doctor and pharmacist so that they can help me”, he said.  C.J. went on to say that his doctor explained to him how to take his medications correctly, and that his pharmacist gave him a free pill box to put his mediations in. C.J did just that, and he ended our talk by saying that his blood sugar levels and his blood pressure levels are now under control.  Interesting, right?  So don’t be afraid to see your doctor or pharmacist, everyone. They can be a big help in keeping you healthy!

I'm always intimidated to talk to my pharmacist - they always rush me out of there! Good for C.J. for overcoming that and talking to his pharmacist anyway!
