Celebrating the Life of Mary Dunn, Great Teacher of Iyengar Yoga
Celebrating the Life of Mary Dunn
This Valentines Day, the Iyengar Yoga Institute of NYC organized an entire weekend of celebrations in the memory of the founder of the Iyengar Yoga Association of the United States, Mary Dunn.
On saturday many yoga practitioners including former students of Mary gathered for dinner and a session of sharing and remembrances. Mary Dunn was a teacher for thousands of people and played a seminal role in spreading Iyengar Yoga in the US. Mary began learning yoga directly under BKS Iyengar in 1974 and practiced till the last days of her life (she passed away last september). See more info about her in this yoga journal bio
Here is a video presented on saturday by one of mary's ex-students and friend. This was shot in hawaii and as you can see mary knew how to do yoga and also have fun!

The energy and the enthusiasm in the entire space was evident as people discussed yoga, shared their fun stories with Mary and discussed how much Iyengar Yoga had helped them become more aware and balanced in their life.
And yes the food was great. It was indian and vegetarian followed by a bunch of great cakes and other desserts.
If you have not yet tried a class of iyengar yoga, i would strongly recommend one - you can check their schedules here
