Expanded recycling in NYC??

Blog entry posted by Laura 1 year ago

For New Yorkers who like to recycle, there's some pretty good news in our future.  It looks like they are trying to pass a law that will expand recycling of plastics in New York.  This means that we can finally recycle items like yogurt containers, plastic fast food containers, laundry detergent containers and more!  It also is part of a bigger plan to put recycling bins into more public places throughout the city - up to 700 more in the next 10 years!

It's pretty great that NYC is finally understanding all of the waste that is currently going into landfills and taking steps to reduce it.

On top of that, they'd even be putting "textile bins" across the city, or places you can recycle your old clothes/fabrics.

All of these steps would make it much easier for people to recycle and take care of our city and environment! Good job New York!

Everyone should take part in recycling items and garbage. Think you can't make a difference so why recycle? Precisely what is one person's conservation going to do within the grand pictures? Thoughts like these are just what helped create the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Garbage, plastic bottles, and many other things we just toss down the drain, have been carried by the North Pacific Gyre to create a massive pile of garbage within the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This pile of junk might take decades to clean out with some thinking it may be impossible. You don't think you make a difference, think again. Each and every one person who contributed to that pile made a difference, and every single person who helps recycle is making a difference. It starts with you!

I agree with Gordon on this, its only takes one person to catch on and can do alot more than they think alone. I'm glad they're thinking of getting more things included into the recycling. I feel bad throwing away some plastic items that they will not take. I feel that all plastics should be recycled and would help even more with being green and saving more garbage from being dumped in a landfill. Recycling is the way to go.
