As a nutritionist, I often get asked about whether or not High Fructose Corn Syrup, or HFCS for short, is bad for your health. This is an important question because HFCS has replaced regular old "sugar," also known as sucrose, as our sweetener of choice. HFCS can be found in everything from sodas and snack foods to toothpaste and cough syrups.
Current obesity rates project to diabetes for one third of U.S. in 2024
At its present rate of increase, diabetes will be a fact of life for a third of the U.S. Population by 2024. An increasing trend toward obesity and an aging populace were cited as the main troubles in a Centers for Disease Control report published on Oct. 22. As the cost of treating diabetes is expected to triple, the CDC has launched efforts reduce the number of cases.
