During the cold winter months, be prepared when heading outdoors to avoid serious coditions like hypothermia or frostbite.  Dress in layers of warm, waterproof clothing; wear a hat to retain body heat; change out of wet clothing immediately; eat well before going outside, and carry snacks; and drink warm beverages (but avoid caffeine and alcohol).
