Get Healthy Harlem

You know what bothers me to no end? Cars who idle in front of my apartment! You know what I mean... they just park there, with their cars running and their music blasting ruining not only my peace and quiet, but also my fresh air! (Well, as fresh as it can be in the city anyway!)

I have been getting e-mails from the Lazy Environmentalist, Josh Dorfman, giving me ideas on ways to "go green" without having to do too much.

    Shugah Baybees pre-school (Family Daycare) is looking for help in starting an organic Garden.  The family Daycare consist of 5 to 12 children who practice healthy eating.we have a great backyard and need help getting started. The past two or so days have been very sunny and HOT! I went to CVS today to pick up some sunscreen and a few thoughts/questions crossed my mind:

Watching the JETS game and all of the football players are wearing pink sneakers, pink gloves, and pink hand towels in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!! If these macho men can wear pink we can all do it. Support Breast Cancer Awarenes Month and ladies don't forget to get screened!!!!!!!!

With 1 in 4 Harlem children diagnosed with Asthma, the urgency of improved Air quality couldn't come at a better time. According to The PLANYC 2024 478 city schools burn No. 4 or No. 6 heating oil and many of these are in neighborhoods where the asthma rates are over three times higher than the national average.

If you have ever purchased a privately owned car, you may are left wondering how to get the smell of cigarette smoke out of a car. There are some people go the additional mile to detail their automobiles before sale, but if you're scoping a spur-of-the-moment deal that is on Craigslist, you may be purchasing an AS-IS car that doubled as a mobile smoking lounge.

In Mid-April, Transportation Alternatives, with support from the Communities I.M.P.A.C.T Diabetes Center, hosted a workshop to make East Harlem's streets safer for pedestrians, transit riders and bicyclists.
